1.


Is the digitizer plugged into the power source and the computer, and is it turned on?



Yes



No



Turn off the computer.  Connect the digitizer properly and turn the power on.  Turn the computer on.

2.


What kind of pointing device is being used?



Corded



Cordless



Does the pointing device use batteries?



Yes



No



Are the batteries fresh?



Yes



No



If the batteries are not fresh, try changing the batteries.

3.


Are you getting proximity?  (Tablet's power light stays on when pointing device is on the tablet's surface, and blinks when it's not.)

Note: On the UltraSlate, the tablet's power light will be off when the pointing device is in proximity, and will stay on (green) when the pointing device is out of proximity.

Note: The Creation Station does not have a power light.

Try changing the operating mode of the cursor by pressing and holding down the 0,1 and 3 buttons for three to five seconds.

Note: CalComp "pick" cursors only.  Pick cursors have all gray buttons.

Note: This does not apply to Station Series tablets.

4.


To what COM port and IRQ is the digitizer connected?

Note: The digitizer can only be used in one of the following configurations:

COM Port IRQ Address
1 4 03F8
2 3 02F8
3 4 03E8
4 3 02E8

If another device on your computer is using the same COM port
or IRQ as the digitizer, the digitizer will not respond correctly.

Are you using the correct driver for your tablet?

6.


Do you get the following error message when your computer starts? 

"CalComp Driver could not find tablet!..."

This message can be disabled in the Tabletworks Control Panel by checking the "Notify when tablet not found" checkbox.

7.


Using the tablet, are you able to move the mouse pointer on the screen on the Windows desktop without any programs open?



Yes



No







8.


Is a modem installed in the computer?



Yes



No



What COM Port and IRQ is the modem using?

Note: If the modem is installed on the same COM Port or is using the same IRQ as your digitizer, the digitizer will not respond.

9.


Are there other internal serial devices installed on the computer?



Yes



No



Does an adapter connect the tablet's I/O cable to the computer?



Yes



No



Be sure that the adapter is an RS-232 Straight Through adapter---not a Null Modem Adapter.  If the tablet is connected to a switch box, try connecting it directly to the computer.

10.


The tablet is not communicating with the computer.

- The tablet may be connected to the wrong COM Port.
- The COM Port may be defective. 
- There may be an IRQ conflict with another serial device. 
- The COM Ports could be labeled incorrectly on the back of the
  computer.

Try connecting the tablet to another COM Port on the computer

The problem is application related.  Be sure that the digitizer is set up correctly for the application you are using the digitizer with.  See our Knowledge Base for more troubleshooting help.
