I have a separate power supply for my Roll-Up---do I really need to use it?
Yes. Although the Roll-Up does get some power from the computer, the external power supply is needed to ensure a constant power source. This is especially true if you are using the digitizer with a laptop computer.

Why do I get dead spots and areas where the stylus/cursor jumps around?

There are a few possibilities:

Pencil Marks. Pencil marks contain graphite. Graphite is a conductor and will interfere with proper functioning of the digitizer. Erase any pencil marks from the tablet. If the plans or paper resting on the tablet have pencil marks, remove the plans and see if this action corrects the problem.

Objects in contact with the digitizer. Be sure there are no metal objects (such as staples) on or below the digitizer. A Roll-Up cannot be used effectively on a metal surface. Be sure there are no electronic devices (such as a monitor, phone, radio, or even a keyboard) on the digitizer tablet because these devices can cause interference.

Dirt or film build up. The digitizer should be clean and dry. Clean the digitizer with a mix of isopropyl alcohol and water.

Static electricity. Try to ground yourself before using the digitizer. If the air is very dry, try using a humidifier. An anti-static air spray and/or grounding floor mat may also help. Clothing made of synthetic fabric also creates a lot of static electricity. If static is a problem, you may want to minimize how much synthetic material you are wearing.

Cuts or slices in the tablet. Cuts or slices in the tablet may result in dead spots. If you believe your tablet is damaged in this way, call GTCO Technical Support.

Does it matter what order I plug the stylus/cursor, power supply and I/O cable in?
Yes. First connect the stylus/cursor and then the separate power supply if you have one. Next, connect the I/O cable. The digitizer will emit the four Success tones when you connect the external power supply. There is no specific order for disconnecting the components.

Can I extend my I/O cable (digitizer to computer's serial communications port)?
Yes. The easiest way to do this is to extend the side of the cable with the RS232-C connector. You can purchase a connector and an extra length of standard "RS232-C straight through" cable from many local electronics stores. The maximum recommended total cable length (including all parts and extensions) is 25 feet.

Can I use my Roll-Up with the QuikRuler?

Very likely, yes. Look on the back of your Roll-Up and write down the "Software" you have. The Software (or firmware) code will look something like this: "J1.3". To find out if your Roll-Up will work with the QuikRuler, call GTCO Technical Support with this code.

Super L IV                                                                                                                                                   UP
How do I know if my Super L IV is turned on?
The super L IV power switch is located on the rear of the tablet on the controller. When the power is turned on the Super L IV’s indicator LED will begin to blink and you will hear 4 successful tones.

My indicator LED stays on or flashes on and off, is this normal?
If the indicator LED is flashing or stays on solid without the transducer on the active area it is an indication you have something interfering with the digitizer. Interference can be cause by anything metal, metallic, electronic or conductive sitting on top of the board. Some examples of these items are computer mouse, computer keyboard, calculators, metal rulers, staplers, speakers, monitors, telephone etc. Certain items such as Monitors and speakers should be moved 12-16 inches away from the board. Under normal conditions the LED indicator will be on only when the transducer is in the active area.

Why does the TabletWorks icon in my system tray have a red X over it?
Generally this occurs when the computer cannot find the tablet.  It can happen for the following reasons:

Tablet is not connected or not receiving power.
Tablet has frozen due to leaving the transducer sitting idle on the board surface.
Serial port is in use by a different program.
Computer has assigned the tablet to a virtual COM port with a number higher than COM4.
Computer has shut down the serial or USB port to conserve power (laptops are famous for this).
Electronic malfunction with the PC or digitizer.

How to resolve this situation:

Serially Connected Tablets

1. Simply disconnect the tablet from the PC.
2. Remove the power from the digitizer (Serial Only) and wait 10 seconds.
3. Next plug the power back into the unit and then reset the Super Set code.
4. Plug the tablet back into the PC and reboot the PC.

The PC should come back up and TabletWorks should see the board.

USB Connected Tablets
1.
Disconnect the USB cable from the PC.
2. Wait 10 seconds and then reinsert.

TabletWorks should recognize the tablet and the red X should disappear.

Note: Make sure nothing electronic or metallic is residing on the tablet. Mice, keyboards and monitors should be kept at least 12” away from the tablet.

How should I configure TabletWorks to work with my application?
Note: The current version of TabletWorks is built using the Wintab 1.0 specifications.  For most applications, this is sufficient.  If your application requires Wintab 1.1 compatibility you will need to contact your application developer or GTCO CalComp Technical Support @ 410-312-9221 Monday-Friday 6:30am to 5:30 pm Eastern Time.

How do I remove TabletWorks from my PC?
Using your Windows “Add or Remove Programs” from the Windows Control Panel, highlight the program and click the remove button.  The Install Wizard will then automatically start.  Follow the screen prompts and when it completes, reboot your PC.  Your computer should come back up and the TabletWorks icon and program group should no longer exist.

I’m using AutoCAD and getting double-clicks with the 0 button on my 16-button cursor. How do I resolve this?
AutoCAD takes control of the 0 button on the 16-button cursor and assigns it to be the pick button. The TabletWorks Driver, by default, assigns the 0 button to be a Left Click. So, when the 0 button is pressed while using AutoCAD, an AutoCAD pick and a mouse Left Click are executed, resulting in the appearance of the button being press twice.  To resolve the problem, the 0 Button should be set to ‘Not Defined’ in TabletWorks. You can assign the Left Click function to another button on the 16-button cursor.  We have found that assigning it to Button C works well. In AutoCAD, you do not want to assign any AutoCAD functions to the C Button if it is set up to be the Left Click on TabletWorks. We have seen a similar problem with the 1 button on the cursor in AutoCAD if it is assigned as the Right Click in TabletWorks.  This can be resolved by following the same procedure.
